TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona improved to 47-12 on the season and advanced to the Tucson Regional Final with a 4-1 victory over Grand Canyon in an elimination game on Saturday night.
The Wildcats tallied eight hits and scored four runs to beat the Lopes.
Devyn Netz and
Miranda Stoddard both homered in the game while Stoddard picked up the win and Netz earned the save in the circle.
After three scoreless innings, Stoddard put Arizona on the board with her 15th home run of the season – a solo shot to right center.
Arizona took a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning off the bat of Netz. Netz blasted a two-run home to left field for her 19th homer of the season.
In the sixth, the Cats added one more run to take a 4-0 lead. With the bases loaded,
Tayler Biehl drove in
Kaiah Altmeyer with a single down the left line.
GCU scored one in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 4-1 game on a single through the right side.
Stoddard improved to 14-0 after pitching six innings, allowing one run on seven hits and striking out three Lopes. Netz entered in the seventh and struck out the final three batters to secure the win for the Cats.
