PHOENIX — Arizona Public Service (APS) announced Friday that customers paying the environmental benefit surcharge may be eligible for a one-time bill credit this May.

If the proposal is approved by the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) at its meeting on April 22, customers would earn credit for their May bill.

In a press release, APS in its proposal specifically asked the ACC if it could provide the benefit as “a larger one-time credit.” For example, if a customer utilizes 1,050 kilowatt hours per month, their savings on May’s bill would be about $23. Regardless of energy usage, however, APS would compensate the customer accordingly.

Through clean energy projects like Green Power Partners, in which subscribed businesses receive solar power for an extra cost, APS said it is able to generate funds needed for programs like their May proposal.

This effort comes after energy bill rates increased by an average of $2.10 on March 1.

Other APS tools offers to pay energy bills

There are several ways that APS is helping its customers pay off their monthly energy bills.

Here are a few of them:

  • Budget billing – Customers can pay the average cost of their bills until paid off throughout a given year rather than pay full monthly prices.
  • Most Economical Plan – To test which plan is right for them, APS customers can cycle through offered plans and compare them to their existing plan. Some include the Time-of-Use 4-7 p.m. weekdays and Time-of-Use 4-7 p.m. weekdays with Demand Charge plans.
  • Home Energy Checkup – Customers can have an ENERGY STAR contractor come to their home for as little as $99 or schedule a free virtual checkup, where a mobile phone camera is all that’s needed to gain expert advice.

Those seeking more information can call an APS advisor anytime at 602-371-7171 or 800-253-9405 if outside of metro Phoenix.

We want to hear from you.
